Weekend in Carmelo –
November 20 & 21
Wednesday, August 19
November is Wine Tourism Month in Uruguay!
This year we’re celebrating by bringing back one of our favorite Wine
Explorers experiences: a very special weekend in Carmelo.
Carmelo is one of those places we never get tired of returning to. Its wineries, landscapes, river views, local gastronomy, and relaxed rhythm make it the perfect destination for a wine escape and every year we create a completely unique itinerary.
For this edition, we’ve designed a weekend to enjoy slowly: three distinct wineries, memorable food and wine experiences, beautiful scenery, history, and one of our favorite traditions: a sunset boat ride on the Río de la Plata.

Departure: Friday, November 20 at 5:30 PM sharp
From Montevideo Shopping: Luis A. de Herrera 1290
Return: Saturday, November 21 at approximately 11:00 PM
An additional stop will be made at Tres Cruces Bus Terminal on the return.
Transportation departure from Montevideo:
9 AM sharp
(from Montevideo Shopping, in front of the Casino Maroñas entrance – Av. Dr. Luis Alberto de Herrera 1290)
First stop: Pueblo Tannat
We begin our trip at the Bodega Pueblo Tannat, a small family-run winery in Colonia Estrella, created from a genuine passion for wine, the land, and the character of Carmelo.
Their wines are made to express the personality of the region, with varieties including Albariño, Tannat, Marselan,
and Cabernet Franc.
This is where we’ll officially start the weekend with a special four-course dinner, each course paired with a selection of their wines. The perfect start to our Carmelo getaway.
Saturday: history, family tradition, a long lunch and a sunset cruise
On Saturday, after a full breakfast at the hotel, we’ll begin with a short visit to Calera de las Huérfanas, one of the most fascinating historic sites in the area and a beautiful introduction to Carmelo’s heritage.
From there, we’ll continue to Bodega Zubizarreta, where the Zubizarreta family has been producing wine for three generations.
An intimate tasting at El Legado
Later in the day, we’ll visit Bodega El Legado, one of Carmelo’s most charming boutique wineries.
Run by its owners, El Legado is the kind of place that immediately makes you feel at home. We’ll hear the story behind the winery and enjoy a relaxed tasting of their wines accompanied by local delicacies.
And to finish: Sunset on the river
No Wine Explorers weekend in Carmelo would be complete without this experience.
We’ll board a private boat for a one-hour cruise along the northern Río de la Plata, navigating between the islands
as the sun begins to set.
On board, we’ll enjoy a selection of local cheeses and charcuterie, accompanied by wines from Bodega Narbona, soft drinks, and craft beers.
Weather permitting, it is one of the most beautiful moments of the entire weekend and the perfect way to end ourjourney.
