Estación Penitente

We are delighted to invite you to discover a truly unique place that we will be visiting for the very first time: Estación Penitente.

Located in the heart of the Sierras de Minas, Lavalleja, just two hours from Montevideo, Estacion Penitente is a place to connect with nature and enjoy the vistas that will take your breath away.

This charming project was started by a Uruguayan couple, Sara and Gonzalo eight years ago.

Their restaurant is set inside three beautifully restored  train cars from the 1950s, each with its own unique character. Absolutely everything you find here has been recycled and repurposed with exquisite taste, every corner looks like a postcard.

The culinary offerings are delicious, homemade, and prepared with fresh ingredients. Additionally, they also produce their own wines with authentic and approachable qualities that reflect the spirit of this place. Winemaker Fernando Pettenuzzo is responsible for crafting their wines, including Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Tannat. 

You’ll also find three cozy eco-lodges here, built entirely from recycled materials, designed to live in harmony with nature without altering it.

During our visit, we will be warmly welcomed by the owners, enjoy an incredible food and wine experience, and, as a special treat, we will be greeted by their winemaker, Fernando Pettenuzzo.
