On Thursday, October 5th, our "Night among Friends" took place at Escondite Montevideo, a restaurant managed by our friends Jon Hews and John Hatton, located in the heart of Ciudad Vieja (Old Town).
Opened just 6 months ago, it offers top-notch gastronomy in a relaxed and carefully curated ambiance.
The menu was paired with wines from the young Cantera Montes de Oca Winery, a boutique winery owned by the couple Fernanda Montes de Oca and Julio Cantera.
Their 20-hectare vineyard is located in two different areas: Peñarol Viejo and Los Cerrillos (Canelones).
Their production is exclusively aimed at creating high-end wines and the grape varieties they grow: Viognier, Albariño, Merlot, Tannat, Marselan, Petit Verdot, Arinarnoa, and Barbera.
The first vintage of the winery was in 2021; however, in a very short time, they have already received significant recognition, such as the 2022 Revelation Winery award. Their Tannat 2021
was also ranked with 94 points among the top 10 reds in the 2022 Descorchados guide by Patricio Tapia..
With an atmosphere of joy throughout, we had the privilege of learning about this young winery.
Additionally, we were the first to exclusively taste their "Alma Terroir" and "Tagua Blend" lines before their official release.
It was an evening of enjoyment from beginning to end.
Thanks a lot to Jon and John for welcoming us into their home, to Julio Cantera and Fernanda Montes de Oca for introducing us to their beloved wines, and, of course, to all the friends who joined us and quickly filled all the spots in less than 24 hours.
