From March 31st to April 4th, the Spanish Union of Wine Tasters hosted a new edition of Bacchus,Spain’s longest-running and most prestigious international wine competition. The event is recognized by VINOFED (World Federation of Major International Wine and Spirits Competitions), the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine), and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture.

Uruguay was proudly represented by wineries from the regions of Montevideo, Maldonado, Canelones, San José, and Colonia. Their participation was supported by INAVI , with Verónica González Carli, founder and director of Wine Explorers Uruguay — acting as Bacchus’ chosen ambassador. She also formed part of the esteemed panel of judges.

The jury, composed of 90 professionals from around the world, blind-tasted 1,698 wines from 18 different countries.

Over the course of four intense days, participants not only engaged in tasting sessions but also enjoyed an immersive journey into the heart of Spanish culture. The program included outstanding masterclasses, lunches, and dinners hosted by some of Spain’s most prestigious wineries, where wine was the undisputed star.

Undoubtedly, it was an enriching event that brought together leading professionals from around the world — Masters of Wine, renowned sommeliers, acclaimed winemakers, specialized journalists, and major wine importers. All wines were evaluated strictly in blind tastings, ensuring a transparent competition in which awarded wines earned their medals solely on merit.

Bacchus has become the most important Ibero-American showcase in the world of wine, with countries like Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Portugal, Argentina, and Chile standing out among the top medal recipients.

Uruguay received awards for four wineries, achieving 2 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals.
