Each harvest season we organize our classic grape harvest experiences together with different wineries across the country. In this 2026 edition, we visited Spinoglio Winery to enjoy a very special night harvest: a walk through the vineyard, harvesting grapes under the stars, the traditional grape stomping, and a paired dinner featuring some of the winery’s finest wines.
Experiences like this are part of the growing interest in wine tours in Uruguay, where travelers can explore family-owned wineries and discover the country’s unique wine culture.
The Wine Harvest in Uruguay
Harvest season is one of the most important
moments in the wine calendar.

In Uruguay, the harvest begins in early February with white grape varieties and continues until mid-March with red varieties. Tannat, the country’s emblematic grape, is the last to be harvested.
It is an intense period of work in the vineyards, but also a time of celebration. This is when the fruit of an entire year of work is collected and the new vintage begins to take shape.
For those planning wine tours in Uruguay, harvest season offers one of the most authentic ways to experience the vineyards
and understand how wine is made from the very beginning.
Night Harvest at Spinoglio Winery
Every year we organize our traditional harvest experiences, some during the day and others at night.
This time it was the turn of the night harvest, one of the most special experiences for those who enjoy wine tourism in Uruguay, and already a classic among Wine Explorers events.
We gathered at Spinoglio Winery, a family-owned winery located in Montevideo Rural, one of the country’s most important wine regions together with Canelones.
Many travelers who visit wineries in Uruguay are surprised by how close these vineyards are to the capital city, making it easy to combine a winery visit with time in Montevideo or the coast.
We arrived just before sunset to tour the winery and learn more about its history and the way the family works with their vineyards and wines.
When night fell, the real harvest experience began.
Harvesting Grapes Under the Stars

With headlamps and pruning shears in hand, we walked into the vineyard to harvest red grapes under the night sky.
A night harvest offers a completely different way to experience the vineyard. The quiet of the evening, the teamwork, and the direct contact with the vines make the experience both simple and unforgettable.
For many participants, it was also the first time taking part in a real harvest, discovering firsthand where wine truly begins.
The Traditional Grape Stomp
After the harvest came one of the most fun moments of the evening: the traditional grape stomp.
With music, laughter, and plenty of enthusiasm, participants recreated this old winemaking tradition that has long been part of the history of wine production.
It is always one of the most spontaneous and memorable moments of the harvest.
A Paired Dinner with the Winery’s Wines
After the vineyard activities, we returned to
the winery’s historic house to share a

paired dinner prepared especially for the evening.
The welcome reception took place in the garden with Diego Spinoglio Natural Sparkling Wine and Albariño, accompanied by small bites to begin the night.
The dinner continued with braised lamb empanada with provolone and sun-dried tomato, followed by ribeye steak with potato gratin and criolla sauce, paired with Cabernet Franc.
To finish, a chocolate and walnut brownie with
whipped cream and salted caramel praline, served with Tonel X wine.
A long table, great conversation, and the relaxed atmosphere of the winery created the perfect ending to this harvest celebration.
Harvest Season and Wine Tourism in Uruguay
Experiences like this show why Uruguay is becoming one of South America’s most interesting destinations for wine tourism.
Family-owned wineries, short distances between wine regions, and authentic experiences make wine tours in Uruguay increasingly popular among travelers looking for something different from the traditional wine regions of the world.
Harvest season is undoubtedly one of the best times to experience it.
We would like to thank the Spinoglio family and their entire team for welcoming us with such warmth and generosity.
And of course, thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this harvest night with such great energy and enthusiasm.
