Olivos de las Ánimas – Olive Harvest and Lunch with Bodega Las Garzas

On April 26th, we enjoyed an unforgettable day at Olivos de las Ánimas, where we harvested olives and crafted our own olive oil in a fully sustainable setting. We shared a delicious country-style lunch, perfectly paired with the wines of Bodega Las Garzas.

An authentic experience, surrounded by nature, flavors, and great company—undoubtedly set to become a new Wine Explorers classic.

That Saturday, we visited the olive grove and mill of Olivos de las Ánimas, located in the rural area of Pan de Azúcar (Maldonado), just 100 km from Montevideo and at the foot of Cerro de las Ánimas.

For the first time in Wine Explorers’ 10-year history, we had the chance to experience an olive harvest firsthand. We were welcomed by Martín Robaina (one of the project’s owners) and his team, and learned all about this fascinating world—from cultivation and harvesting to the production of our very own oil. It was a complete journey through a process in which nothing is wasted, highlighting the project’s sustainable and environmentally conscious approach.

Later, in the estate’s main house, we enjoyed a beautifully prepared country lunch. We invited Bodega Las Garzas to join us and provide all the wines for the occasion.

This boutique winery is located just a few kilometers from José Ignacio. On its 4 hectares of vineyards, it produces Pinot Noir, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Tannat. Sommeliers Gastón Figún and Maxi Umpiérrez presented six different wines, which paired wonderfully with our meal.

A heartfelt thank you to Martín Robaina for welcoming us so warmly and sharing his passion for such an inspiring project.

And thank you to our friends Gastón and Maxi, for their ever-present warmth and professionalism. It was truly a pleasure to work with such a fantastic team—one that earned a round of applause from everyone present.

Last but not least, thank you to the wonderful group who joined us from different parts of the world and made this unforgettable day possible.

We couldn't be happier or more grateful. Without a doubt, this will become a new Wine Explorers tradition.

Until next time. Cheers!
