Visit to Bodega Santa Rosa

On Saturday, August 10th, we visited the iconic Bodega Santa Rosa of the Passadore Family. It was the first time in nearly 10 years of Wine Explorers that we visited this winery, which is one of the oldest in the country, with 8 generations of family history and 125 years of uninterrupted operation. It had been closed to wine tourism until just a few months ago, so being able to visit was something we eagerly anticipated.

The winery belongs to the Passadore family and produces high-quality fine wines and natural sparkling wines. One of their most outstanding products is the sparkling wine Fond The Cave, which has won many international awards.

Located in the Colón neighborhood of Montevideo, it boasts the largest active underground cellar in South America, which we had the pleasure of touring and learning about its rich history. It’s incredible that such a spectacular place exists so close to the capital, isn’t it?

Upon our arrival, we were welcomed by the oenologist in charge of the winery's tourism, Alejandra Pizzurno. She and her team greeted us with a table full of delicacies: a variety of cheeses and cold cuts, artisanal breads, nuts, olives, pâtés, accompanied by their classic Medio y Medio Santa Rosa, a wine that is very famous in our country as a traditional beverage for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, consisting of a blend of white wine and sparkling wine in a “secret recipe”.

After an almost 2-hour tour of the impressive facilities, which flew by because every corner was worth photographing and listening to its stories, we enjoyed a delicious lunch in the winery's cellar, accompanied by a selection of 8—yes, you read that right—8 of their premium wines.

It was a visit where we cherished and enjoyed every minute!

Thanks a lot to Alejandra Pizzurno and the entire winery team for welcoming us with such thoughtful details; it was truly an unforgettable day.

And of course, to all the friends who joined us from different nationalities, bringing their wonderful energy, as is usual in our experiences.
