On Thursday, May 23, we enjoyed our Bacchus Award Night at Baco Bistró, the wine-pairing dinner featuring Uruguayan wines awarded at the Bacchus 2024 competition.
This year, Uruguay achieved the best result in the 22-year history of this contest, with 14 medals distributed among 9 wineries, including Gold and Silver medals, and a Grand Gold.
During the dinner, which was well-attended, we were able to learn in-depth about seven of the Gold medal-winning wines, one from each winery that received the award.
Verónica González Carli, Uruguay's Bacchus 2024 ambassador, spoke about the competition and her participation in Madrid as one of the 99 judges (the only representative from Uruguay) who tasted a total of 1981 samples from 18 countries.
As the dinner progressed, each wine was presented by Aguaverde Wine Lodge's sommelier, José Adolfo Burger, accompanied by exquisite cuisine.
The wines and wineries of the night, in order of presentation, were:
Flor Violeta Albariño 2023 – Finca Las Violetas (Gold Medal).
Signature Winemaker Cab Sauvignon 2020 – Barras de Mahoma (Gold Medal).
Alma Terroir Tannat 2021 Parcela 19 – Cantera Montes de Oca (Gran Bacchus de Oro and best wine of Uruguay).
Tannat Gran Reserva La Hacienda 2019 – Vinícola Aurora (Gold Medal).
Las Espinas Tannat 2021 – Bodega Bouza (Gold Medal).
Rústico Tannat 2023 – Bodega Héctor Peluffo (Gold Medal).
Carapé 2021 – Bodega Sacromonte (Gold Medal).
Special thanks to:
Matías, Sophie, and the entire Baco team for the excellent service they provided.
All the winning wineries for their support.
Sommelier José Adolfo Burger for his excellent presentation of each wine.
Tavis Davidson for his always impeccable English translation.
And last but most importantly, to all the people who joined the event and quickly sold out the spots.
Cheers to Uruguayan wines!
