Visit to Estación Penitente

On Saturday, September 6th, we lived one of those experiences we love. We visited Estación Penitente, in the Sierras of Minas, just over two hours from Montevideo. A unique place where nature, history, and wine come together to create an unforgettable day.

We enjoyed a very special day at Estación Penitente, a project started by Sara and Gonzalo eight years ago, which reflects in every detail the dedication and love they have put into it since the beginning.

The natural surroundings are uniquely beautiful, perfect for connecting with the landscape of the sierras and enjoying the fresh air. Its restaurant, set inside vintage 1950s train cars, preserves charming recycled details that give the place a very distinctive identity.

The experience was made even richer thanks to the presence of winemaker Fernando Pettenuzzo, who guided us through the tasting of wines crafted especially for the restaurant, and agronomist Eduardo Félix, who shared his insights about the estate’s vineyards, whose first harvest is expected next year.

The gastronomic proposal, abundant, fresh, and homemade, was paired with a selection of wines including Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Tannat. Each pairing was designed to highlight the flavors and won over everyone present.

As the perfect ending, our friend Martín Turner led us on a walk through the sierras, crowned by the wonderful surprise of opening a sparkling wine hidden in a stream. An unforgettable finale to a perfect day!

Without a doubt, it was a wonderful experience, full of nature, flavors, and shared moments that made us feel at home.

Thanks a lot to our hosts, and to all the friends from Uruguay and around the world who continue to join us on every adventure.

See you at the next one!
